A lot has happened in the past few weeks! Our big ultrasound to tell us whether Baby was healthy and if Baby is a boy or girl was moved up 2 weeks. So we changed our He/She Surprise Party date as well. We were planning on finding out the gender with everyone else at the party, and didn't want to wait 2 more weeks since we would have the answer in a white envelope ready for us to open. However, with the change of dates several people were unable to come celebrate with us, so we decided just to find out at the doctor's office and reveal it to family in a fun way.
Dan and Kelsie came up to KC on Thursday night and spent the weekend with us. We decided to share with them early since they would be here for awhile before the party, and so Aunt Kelsie could help me brainstorm some fun ideas! Matt and I both made our gender prediction by wearing blue to our appointment. The ultrasound came first. The technician explained everything she would be looking for as far as growth and development goes before we even got started, and then explained what she was looking at as the images came on the screen. A very healthy and sweet baby boy!!! We were so relieved to know that everything looked good and that baby was growing well. He's in the 50th percentile for weight and the 90th percentile for length (based on his femur length because he's now too long to be measured from head to rump by ultrasound). All major organs checked out ok and are where they are supposed to be. The stomach was the only thing the tech was unable to visualize since he didn't have anything in it and didn't feel like swallowing while we watched. So at our next visit (22 weeks) we'll have another short ultrasound just to recheck the stomach. I was initially worried until I remembered that at our first trimester screen the ultrasound tech pointed out that he was swallowing and there was fluid in his stomach (it looked like a little black bubble in his belly then).
We picked out an outfit at Baby Gap for Dan and Kelsie to open that afternoon as our way of telling them that Baby is officially a little guy. Once they were in on the secret, we started getting stuff ready for the party and coming up with a fun way to tell the rest of the family.

On Sunday all of our family arrived and we had lunch together at Ingredient in Leawood (so tasty!). After eating we came back to the house and got started playing some fun little games: baby pictionary, a Old Wives' tales board, and then a word scramble. Baby pictionary was hilarious and the Old Wives' predicted 9-3 that Baby Nunnally was a girl (gosh we're they wrong!).

Kayla was the one who officially shouted out "A BOY!?!", to which Matt and I confirmed with giant smiles. My silly camera decided to go on the fritz during that time and I was unable to video or take pictures of the excitement, but there were plenty of cheering and congratulations from everyone :)
So happy that we have a healthy baby boy on the way. We had decided not to talk about names until we knew what we were having, so let the Name Games begin!
